So here’s a very very delayed update about the final days at our fantastic Garuda retreat in Mykonos.
It was such an amazing feeling when you realised how quickly your body had adapted and been improved by the work we had been doing. Both my mother and I “suffer” from tight neck and shoulder muscles. After class today my mom and I started talking to the lovely Donna of Cobham Pilates about how good we felt after having twisted and turned to really stretch out our backs. Although stretching any other body part feels great too, stretching and moving the spine always gives a bit of a sweeter feeling, leaving you with that uplifted feeling I find. Since my previous post probably didn’t make anyone (including me) any wiser, I figured that now that I’ve had a taste of it, I may be a bit better at explaining what Garuda is, and also talk about the retreat itself, as it is a new experience for me.

With the very first of Team GB’s 65 Olympic medals being won by cyclist Lizzie Armitstead, what better motivation could there be to pick up this childhood activity again? It’s also incredibly easy to get around on bike now with Boris Bikes stations scattered across the city.

It seems like in the months prior to summer there is no shortage of motivation options available for why you should be hitting the gym/ditching the soda/not eat that sixth donut, the holy grail of it all being that skimpy bikini you intend to strut your stuff in on the beach. However, once the temperature starts to slowly decrease and we begin settling in to our normal everyday routine, what is there to keep us motivated in maintaining that body you’ve literally been working your ass off for? So this post really has nothing to do with health and fitness, except for maybe arguing that to be healthy you need to have a healthy mind. I don’t believe I can have a healthy and sound mind as long as I know that this man, Joseph Kony, is still walking free on this earth, capturing children and forcing them into the most horrible fates.
We’re two months into the new year, so give yourself a big pat on the back if you’ve managed to stay with your resolutions. If you haven’t, it’s no worries. Tomorrow is a brand new day!
One thing that puts some people off going to the gym, is not fully knowing what to bring. Forgetting to bring your iPod with you can sometimes ruin your whole workout session.
